what is skrying?
definition - skryin British English (skrai)
VERB Word forms: skries, skrying or skried(intransitive) to have spiritual visions (most commonly using a crystal ball or smooth body of water)
Definition Credit - Collins English Dictionary
Skrying has been used for thousands of years by different cultures as a form of divination. The most common tools these civilizations used for skrying included crystal balls, still water, and a mirror. More obscure tools were also used from mouldy cheese to oil on water. Basically anything that can create form and shape.
This module covers skrying using scribbling, specifically with soft pastels, as a form of automatic art to create a drawing that can be interpreted in response to a question.
Please watch the video first, learn the technique, and remember to use the side of a soft pastel to begin with, so as to the reduce your need to control what you draw. Practice makes progress and you will develop your own best method.
EXERCISE artful skrying
After being compelled to connect with trees for several weeks, I felt a great sense of connection to various trees including several large holly trees. Wanting to understand their messages more clearly I made an intention to connect with the wisdom of trees and then did the drawing in the video below. No surprise to find an all seeing eye at the centre and a menagerie of animal teachers appearing as if by magic, each with an interesting message when I looked them up on line. See if you can find any others in the drawing with a special message for you. If curious, you can search totem animal <whatever animal you choose> to find your own messages.
Make notes to acknowledge your progress as you go on.
